What Happens After the Rescue?

You may have seen this amazing video of a baby being rescued from the rubble after the Nepal earthquake. It vividly shows men frantically working to bring the baby back to freedom from his burial beneath the collapsed building.

What a metaphor for Jesus as our Rescuer. He rescues us from our helpless and lost condition. Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (NASB). Though the earthquake is a tragedy of an almost impossible magnitude, God has rescued us from an even worse condition. What love God has bestowed on the human race!

But after Jesus has rescued us, what happens then?

We are to be about making disciples of Jesus (Matt. 28:19-20). It is not enough to just be rescued. Believers from all walks of life — all professions — must make other disciples who also are learning to live and love like Jesus.

Today, life in Nepal is desperate. The Nepalese people need rescue — from disaster, from poverty and from life without Christ. Nepal needs long-term development; jobs to promote recovery, dignity and restoration; and disciple-makers. Will you pray for disciples of Jesus to come from the rubble and the ruin?
