Next Steps Missions Weekend
Find your way toward the mission field.
Next Steps is a weekend missions event that gives you space to explore options, connect with real-life missionaries, dig into your heart, learn about Crossworld, and process what you’re discovering.
You’ll leave with tangible next steps for your way forward to bring God’s love to life among the least-reached ... and maybe even join the Crossworld community!
Discover God’s heart and vision for the world
Discern how you fit into God’s mission
Determine the cost of serving as a disciple-maker
You have questions about missions.
Are you at the stage of exploring what it means to be a missionary and whether Crossworld would be a good fit for you?
- Is God asking you to go or stay?
- Do you have what it takes to live cross-culturally and learn a new language?
- If you’re not married, will being a missionary make you permanently single?
- If you have a spouse or kids, how will all the changes affect them?
- Will you need to raise financial support, find a job in your profession, or both?
- What are the benefits of joining Crossworld, and what’s the process to do so?
We have questions, too.
On paper, we’re an organization. In real life, we’re a formative community — bonded not by wearing a logo but through sharing life. Maybe that shared life will include you.
- What’s your story?
- Where have you seen God at work in your life?
- What’s important to you, and what ignites your passion?
- Do you understand how you’re wired and what to do with the blessings as well as the baggage?
- As you explore, are you asking the right questions of the right people?
Let’s find answers together.
Join us for a long weekend (Thursday-Sunday) at our Kansas City, Mo., campus for Next Steps. See firsthand what being in our formative community of global disciple-makers is like. A highlight will be hearing from people who once had the same questions as yours but found their path forward in the Great Commission. You’ll come away with what you’ve been looking for: your next steps.
What to Expect
When you come to Next Steps, you’ll meet others who are in the same stage you are of exploring global missions, as well as those who’ve gone before you. Here’s how you’ll spend your two-and-a-half days during Next Steps.
Explore outward
Group sessions will deepen your view of who God is, how his love for all people connects to Jesus’ sacrifice, and how his joy in their worship becomes our joy, too. You’ll hear first-person accounts from missionaries about life on the field, the needs among the unreached, and opportunities for you to engage in the Great Commission.
Explore inward
Your story has many layers: your past, your worldview, your strengths and weaknesses, your response to stress and change, your relationships, and the things that energize or deflate you. Dig into these and more with professional assessments to help you better understand yourself and your readiness to live and work abroad.
Explore connections
Having looked outwardly and inwardly, you’ll have some serious things to process. Each day, take space to be quiet with the Lord and connect your mind and heart with his leading. Is he calling you to a specific location or type of work? Is now or later the time to go to the least-reached? What next steps is he showing you?
Explore Crossworld
We’ve been sending and serving missionaries all over the world since 1931. That means we have the experience to help you succeed. Learn what questions to ask of any mission agency and red flags to watch for. We’ll also show you what makes Crossworld unique and how we help people like you thrive as disciple-makers overseas.

Should I bring my kids?
Yes! Children of all ages are encouraged to come to Next Steps. Infants and toddlers receive supervised care with trained caregivers; kids from preschool through high school get age-appropriate curriculum about God’s heart for the nations and what it’s like to be a TCK (a Third Culture Kid).
Should I talk to my church before attending?
Yes! Bring your church into the conversation as soon as possible. Share about your desire to serve overseas and ask about their process for sending and supporting missionaries.
Your pastor is welcome to attend Next Steps, too, to learn about Crossworld as a sending organization. We’re eager to build a partnership and walk alongside your church as we jointly send you out and care for you on the field.

Will I be expected to commit to Crossworld at the end of Next Steps?
Absolutely not. Your purpose, through prayerful processing, is to find your next steps — whether that’s with Crossworld or somewhere else. You’ll be challenged to find your role in the Great Commission, and you’ll learn how we go about our role as an organization — and what it would look like if you were part of it with us. But there’s no pressure to move forward.
If you do choose to continue with Crossworld, you can apply for membership in our community after Next Steps.
