This Kid Said What?
BRAZIL — The kids squirmed and peered around each other, trying to get a peek at the treats as one by one, each boy and girl was handed a piece of chocolate. This was a special kids’ club day: They had listened to the Easter story about Jesus and now they celebrated with a treat.
Four-year-old Luana (pictured) stood to the side as she watched her friends receive their piece of chocolate. Because of her food allergies, Luana can’t eat chocolate … or cake … or any other typical treat. Crossworld worker Kathleen looked on and hoped Luana wouldn’t feel too left out as, once again, she was unable take part in the treats.
When Luana’s mom picked her up, the words tumbled out of Luana’s mouth. “…And there were balloons and stories and games and treats!”
“Sweetie, I’m sorry you can’t have chocolate like the other kids,” her mom said.
“Mommy, Easter isn’t about chocolate,” she said. “It’s about Jesus. He died on the cross and rose again!”
Those standing nearby smiled and nodded in agreement while Luana’s mom, not yet a follower of Christ, pondered her daughter’s bold statement of faith.
