Director of Marketing and Communications (U.S. office)
Summary
The Director of Marketing and Communications advances Crossworld’s disciple-making vision by leading all aspects of organizational marketing, branding, communications, and storytelling. This role strengthens Crossworld’s public image, enhances audience engagement, and supports internal teams, especially Advancement, in achieving their ministry goals. The Director leads a collaborative, high-capacity team and manages external vendors, digital platforms, brand assets, and content strategy, ensuring consistency, excellence, and alignment with Crossworld’s values and mission. This role is ideal for a relational, prayerful, and spiritually grounded leader who combines creative vision with operational clarity and a love for global missions.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Accountability
- Lead, manage, and hold accountable the Communications team through vision-setting, mentoring, and training.
- Promote a healthy team culture built on trust, clarity, prayer, and collaboration.
- Set annual SMART goals and oversee monthly KPIs using the Communications Dashboard.
- Lead weekly team meetings (project reviews, strategic decisions, team prayer).
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure timelines are clear and progress is tracked.
- Participate in hiring process and onboard new team members as needed.
2. Brand Oversight
- Maintain and evolve Crossworld’s brand strategy and voice across all channels.
- Review and approve all public-facing content (social media, website, print, email, video, etc.).
- Champion brand integrity across the organization and train staff in brand consistency.
3. Content Creation & Editorial Leadership
- Serve as lead writer and editor across channels:
- Social media: Coordinate content planning, caption writing, and visual selection.
- Blog: Set editorial calendar, write/edit content, conduct SEO research.
- Email: Develop and distribute monthly and targeted campaigns
- Print: Oversee brochures, flyers, presentations, and promotional materials.
- Donor communications: Write/edit donor appeals, updates, and stewardship emails.
- Oversee editorial quality, tone, and accuracy in all communication.
- Oversee planning, production, and creative direction of video projects for marketing, storytelling, and donor engagement purposes, ensuring alignment with brand messaging and strategic goals.
4. Digital Marketing & Email Systems
- Manage ActiveCampaign (CRM/email platform): lists (35K+ contacts), forms, automations (100+), integrations, and team training.
- Monitor and improve engagement through reporting and testing.
- Lead digital strategy efforts including SEO, lead generation, and audience segmentation.
5. Website Management
- Manage content and strategy for crossworld.org and crossworld.ca.
- Lead SEO efforts and monitor analytics (Google Analytics, Moz).
- Serve as primary website liaison with WMTEK (web development partner).
- Troubleshoot issues and manage online dashboards
6. Inbound Marketing & Advertising
- Participate in Google Ads strategy meetings and performance reviews.
- Contribute new ideas and guide strategic pivots when needed.
- Oversee Google Reviews strategy and automation.
7. Internal Collaboration & Support
- Serve field staff with communication support (e.g., Partner Development, interviews, consulting).
- Advise internal teams on communication strategies and tools.
- Strengthen the connection between the Marketing and Communications, the Global Leadership Team, and the Church and Mobilization department (marketing/sales alignment).
8. Budget & Strategic Planning
- Develop and manage the annual communications budget.
- Make strategic, data-informed decisions on resource allocation.
9. Crisis Communications
- Serve on the Crisis Management Team to guide internal and external communications in emergencies.
10. Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in and occasionally lead weekly organizational prayer (3x/week), Advancement meetings, and staff gatherings.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement.
- Manage multiple inboxes (e.g., COM, prayer, news, personal).
- Provide technical support for meetings and virtual events as needed.
- Travel internationally, typically once per year, to participate in field leadership conferences or meet with global workers as needed.

- 5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or related leadership roles.
- Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editing skills.
- Strong organizational and decision-making abilities.
- Skilled in digital platforms: ActiveCampaign, Google Analytics, SEO tools (e.g., Moz), CMS platforms.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
- High capacity to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities with grace and clarity.
Work Environment & Skills
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.
- Able to work on-site in Kansas City during standard weekday hours (some remote flexibility possible).
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally and operate general office equipment.

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position and is classified as exempt. Salary will be determined annually by the Vice President of Advancement. The employee is guaranteed medical coverage, life insurance and retirement benefits of all full-time employees. Annual vacation is 10 days. 11 holidays and 10 sick days are also allotted January 1 each year.
Requirements
This job requires the employee to work primarily on campus Monday through Friday. The employee must be able to function efficiently working from a private office or from home.
Skills: Excellent communication and writing skills; administrative skills; competencies in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; confidence in using technology in general; relational abilities.
Physical abilities: While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk, hear, use their hands and fingers to operate office technology, is often required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. This employee should be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds periodically. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
