Challenging the Status Quo (Part 1)

Mark Silvers  By Mark Silvers

I love Taco Bell’s slogan: “Think outside the bun!” Why? Because Taco Bell challenges the status quo that everything good has been done before.

Megachurch pastor Andy Stanley said, “To accept status quo is the equivalent of accepting the death sentence.” So when it comes to reaching the nations, how can we think outside our “bun”? Let’s not simply accept the status quo of how we’ve sent workers in the past.

Here are some small, smart choices that can move us away from status quo and produce a radical difference in the mobilization of the body of Christ to the 2.9 billion unreached peoples, if we practice them consistently over time. Will you help be a part of this revolution?

Choose to Pray … Daily!

This advice is so simple, but so practical, that Christ himself commanded His disciples to pray for laborers (disciple-makers) to be sent out (Luke 10:2; Matthew 9:38). Are we not His disciples?

The words send out literally mean cast out, the same word used in Scripture when Christ cast out demons. Think about how much power it takes to cast our demons, and then realize that same power is directed toward sending out disciple-makers!

Charles Spurgeon said, “It takes great power to drive a devil out; it will take equal power from God to drive a minister [disciple-maker] out to His work” (emphasis mine).

We must be diligent to pray daily that the Father will thrust disciple-makers out to the least-reached marketplaces of the world.

This is a small, but powerful and effective way to bring about a radical difference in mobilization. Here are some practical ways we can pray.

  • Pray for eyes to see those from all professions in whom the Spirit is already at work, pushing them toward ministry among the nations.
  • Pray that God will rekindle a passion for the nations in the heart of His church in North America.
  • Pray for all professions to be mobilized — those who are trained in law, business, Bible, agriculture, counseling and more.
  • Pray that God will remove all hindrances from those He is sending out.
  • Pray for 100 or more disciple-makers a year to be sent out from every agency!

Let us no longer accept the status quo!
