Teaching in the Open
My new coworker Teresa and I thought we were having a simple interview for her new job teaching English at the local elementary school. But when we spotted the large Thai Bible on the school director’s desk, we knew God had bigger plans for our meeting.
For weeks, we’ve been praying for a new way to share the gospel at the school where three of us Crossworld workers teach. We’ve faced blatant opposition from the community over the last year. Untrue rumors have spread throughout the city about Christians, and many people have forbidden their families from studying the Bible. We decided the best way to share the gospel at our school is to teach the Bible out in the open during the school's recess hour. This open teaching would deter any kind of rumors from spreading. And this was the perfect moment to ask the school director for permission.
“Do you know what this book is, Director?” I asked, motioning to the Bible on his desk.
“I don’t know where this book came from,” he replied. “Perhaps we could add it to the school library so the students can learn about it.”
“I can teach them!” I said, perhaps too eagerly. “What if I taught from this book during recreation hour? All who are interested can come, listen, and learn.”
“I see no issue with that,” the director said with a smile of approval.
This week, thanks to God’s providential hand, we will be teaching Bible stories to all who will listen on our school campus — with the approval of the school director! Please pray that students will learn of God’s love for them, and in turn, go home and share the good news with their parents.
