Have You Used This Excuse? (Part 1)

I hear of a lot of excuses for not going to the least-reached to make disciples. In spite of valid fears, the unreached people of the world are too important to let anything keep you from going to them. Let’s look at four of these common fears and how to overcome them.

Fear #1: The Fear of Funding

“I’m willing to go but I just don’t want to raise money.” Here are five solutions to face the fear of funding.

  1. Stop seeking to fund “your” ministry.
It’s not “your” ministry — it’s God’s! Finances are not an issue for God; our faith in His ability to provide is. Take that first step and commit to go to the least-reached.
  2. Start seeking partners.
Your goal is not to get enough funds to allow you to chase your dream overseas, but to recruit partners who want to see God’s glory proclaimed among the nations. One way to do this is by telling stories. Everybody loves stories! Why?
  • Stories show that by giving, partners are making a huge impact in people’s lives for eternity instead of simply paying your salary, which isn’t a compelling reason to give. We are not as wonderful as we like to think we are, but what God is doing through the ministry is! Invite people to participate in that vision.
  • Stories show that by giving, partners are standing on the front lines of ministry alongside you. People’s lives are being changed because you are all on the same team working for the same goal (Philippians 1:3-5; 2:2).
  1. Start seeking training that is biblical and practical.
Why walk the journey alone? Connect with a Crossworld mobilizer who has walked the road before you and who will pray with you, encourage you and mentor you along the way. Get started. Further, when you join Crossworld, you’ll be trained in support raising before you ever walk out the door to do it yourself. You’ll find that this biblical foundation gives you confidence as you see how God has provided for His people throughout history.
  2. Start serving as a disciple-maker in a salaried position.
Take a job that pays? That’s right. Transfer your job internationally or find a position in your field overseas and make disciples within that natural sphere of influence at work. Ask a Crossworld mobilizer what it means to be a job-taker.
  3. Start running a business.
Beyond paying your own salary, employ local workers and help them earn a living as well! As a fair and honest boss, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to make disciples through your work. Ask a Crossworld mobilizer what it means to be a job-maker.

The fear of funding should never keep a follower of Christ from going to the nations! No more should the words, “I’m willing to go but I don’t want to raise money” come out of your mouth. It’s time to conquer this fear and see His glory shine among the nations!
