BALKANS — Nouns, verbs and sentence structure dominated most of the morning conversation at the week-long English camp. But in the afternoons, the 28 university students got to use their native language during the spiritual discussions led by the camp’s teachers, including Crossworld worker Mitchell.

“We already talked about the problem we all face,” Mitchell said, picking up the topic from that week’s theme. “Each of us is separated from God by sin.”

The students nodded in agreement.

“But what’s the solution for that problem?” he asked.

No one spoke. A few students scanned the group to see if anyone could find a solution. But no one could.

Then one of the local believers spoke. “The Bible says that God sent His Son Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins by dying in our place. Three days later He came back to life again. Now our sins can be forgiven and our relationship with God can be restored!”

All at once the students had many solutions — or at least objections: “That can’t be true,” “Jesus didn’t die” and “God can’t have a son.”

Mitchell and the other teachers patiently listened to each student, sharing a bit of Scripture when appropriate. Toward the end of the discussion, one student remarked, “This is the first time anyone has ever told me that Jesus died and came back from the dead.”

“I hope you’ll consider it,” Mitchell said. Then to the group: “Don’t let this conversation be the end of your questions. Continue pursuing the truth of God seriously.”

Pray with Mitchell that the students will do just that, and find the truth of God in Jesus.
