Your Mission Here: 9 ways you can help fulfill the Great Commission

Your Mission Here: 9 ways you can help fulfill the Great Commission

At this moment, more than 3 billion people have little or no access to the gospel. That’s a big problem.

As a follower of Jesus, you are commanded to be part of the solution, because the Great Commission is for everyone, everywhere (not just those who go).

How can you obey this command without going?

Here are 9 practical ways you can engage in the Great Commission from wherever you are.

1. Pray for the nations.

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have as believers. Praying for the nations expands your heart toward least-reached people and keeps you active in the Great Commission. Commit to pray for one country each week this year. Learn about the country and its people groups from the Joshua ProjectPrayercast, or Operation World.

2. Attend a missions conference.

Attending a missions conference is a special opportunity to meet global workers who’ve dedicated their lives to the gospel, lived overseas, and can tell you what it’s like first hand! If you’re looking for a conference to attend, here are some we recommend.

3. Engage with your church’s global workers.

Connect with someone at your church to find out what they are doing locally and globally. Ask about joining the missions committee or supplying needs for visiting workers, such as a guest room to stay in, winter clothing, cell phones, airport transportation, or meals.

4. Further your heart for the least-reached.

Reading missionary stories is a great ways to deepen your heart for missions. Here are some of our favorites.
  • Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Deibler Rose
  • To the Golden Shore by Courtney Anderson
  • Hudson Taylor by Janet & Geoff Benge
  • Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot

5. Volunteer at a local mission agency.

One tangible way to engage in God’s mission is to serve those in your community. Explore global opportunities through Samaritan’s PurseOperation Christmas Child, and the Children’s Hunger Fund. Ask your church about local organizations or outreach needs like clothing drives, lawn care, and befriending newly resettled immigrants.

6. Invest in a missions project.

Missions Projects all over the world need committed partners in North America to pray and contribute toward financial needs. Whether purchasing medical supplies, a church building, or training materials, your gift makes a tangible difference. See project opportunities.

7. Connect with a missions organization.

With the nations moving to our neighborhoods, you don’t have to go far to engage the least-reached. Many agencies (including Crossworld) now have workers serving in North America. Is the Lord nudging you to make a deeper commitment to the least-reached around you? Connect with us about how you can get plugged in right where you are.

8. Donate to Crossworld’s Global Advance Fund.

It’s hard to fathom that several billion people worldwide have still never once heard the name of Jesus. You can help change that. When you give to Crossworld, you raise up, send, and support workers — and through them, you introduce the Savior of the world to people who have never heard of him. Make a gift today.

9. Adopt a global worker.

Consider adopting a missionary for a calendar year. Pray for them, reach out to encourage them by text or email on a regular basis, and/or support their ministry financially. You’ll be a blessing to them, and your partnership will give you a front-row seat to how God is working among the nations.
