Who Will Take Her Place?

Old people are my heroes — especially those who lived life to the fullest, and for Jesus! They have stories of meeting stone-age people in Papua, coming face to face with Amazon warriors, climbing high into the Alps to find people without Jesus, and surviving chaos in Haiti.

Kathy (pictured with her husband and children above) was like that — one of my heroes, the model of a disciple-making follower of Jesus. Kathy grew up in Florida as a Japanese American, back when it was very unpopular to be Japanese. She came to know Jesus through a Youth for Christ high school club and began to learn how to live and love like Jesus.

When Kathy learned that more than 1 million Japanese had immigrated to Brazil, she joined Crossworld and off she went, investing her life to take Christ to the Japanese in Brazil.

OK, you say, nice story. What does that have to do with me?

The unreached peoples of the world need more Kathys! What would it look like if hundreds more like Kathy would join Crossworld and go to live and love like Jesus in ways like this?

  • Engaging neighbors in Central Asia, where I met a taxi driver who had never heard of Jesus
  • Launching a new business in South Asia, where there is massive unemployment, poverty and injustice
  • Working with a microenterprise program in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Teaching English in Thailand or other countries in East Asia
  • Rescuing trafficked victims in Southeast Asia
  • Providing clean water in East Asia
  • Developing agricultural work in Senegal

Will you be a Kathy for this generation? Talk to us.

Larry Sharp served 21 years with Crossworld in Brazil as teacher and principal of Amazon Valley Academy and president of Missão Cristã Evangélica do Brasil. He returned to the U.S. in 1993 to become vice president at Crossworld’s home office. After 20 years as an executive, he is now Vice President Emeritus and business consultant for Crossworld.
