What Keeps You Up at Night?
BRAZIL — Crossworld worker Irene walked out of her house that morning in 1984 as usual. But that day was different: the Wai Wai (WY WY) people had just received the New Testament in their own language. The first believer trusted Christ 35 years before, and now they could read and study the Scriptures for themselves.
She spotted Xuaw, one of the village leaders, and noticed the dark circles around his eyes.
“You look tired,” Irene said. “How did you sleep last night?”
“I didn’t sleep at all,” Xuaw replied.
“Did one of the children keep you up?” Xuaw shook his head. “Then what was the problem?”
“I’ve waited all my life to have God’s Word,” Xuaw said. “I couldn’t put it down last night. I sat by the fire and kept fanning it to make it light enough so that I could read, and I just read all night long.”
