The 4 A.M. Prayer Meeting
BRAZIL — Paco came to Crossworld worker Jon with a surprising request as they prepared for an upcoming event at their remote village church.
“I think we need to get our heads on straight for this event,” Paco said. “We should start meeting at 4 a.m. to pray and maybe hear some Scripture. Would you join me?”
The believers in Paco’s village are first-generation Christians and have never had a Bible study or private devotional time outside of church on Sundays.
Though 4 a.m. was earlier than Jon wanted to get out of bed, he couldn’t refuse Paco’s desire to seek the Lord. “Yes, of course!” he replied.
It started with just Jon and Paco praying every morning for the church event. After the event passed, they kept meeting to pray. Soon a few more men joined them.
Today, three years later, 15 men are still gathering every weekday morning. They read a passage of Scripture in their language and pray as a group.
As they spend time with God and each other every day, God is changing them from the inside out.
Their accountability helps each other stay focused on Christ in a village culture that is far from the Lord.
Would you pray for their commitment to Christ and his Word? And pray that the evidence of their changed lives would transform their community as a result.
