Stranger in the Night
Read Part 1 of this story: “A Not-So-Silent Night.”
CENTRAL ASIA — “His name is Daud, after King David,” said Crossworld worker Vicky when her friend Habeekah asked Vicky to name her child. “King David was the youngest of a large family, and no one believed he would amount to much. But God raised him up for great things, and from his line the Prince of Peace was born. It’s my prayer that Daud, your sixth child, will do great things, too.”
Not long after, God showed that He had heard that prayer. Here’s what happened.
Daud developed pneumonia and urgently needed a doctor’s care. Without access to an ambulance, Habeekah frantically called for a taxi to take them to the hospital in the middle of the night.
Rather than the usual gruff taxi drivers, the driver that night “was clean and shone brightly,” Habeekah later told Vicky. He gave Habeekah and Daud a free ride to the hospital, waited there to give them a free ride home, and paid for Daud’s medicine at the pharmacy — kindnesses unheard of for women in this country. Not only that, but the driver told Habeekah he was a “traveler” and she would never see him again.
“I know it was an angel, because good deeds like this never happen here,” Habeekah told Vicky. Even Habeekah’s family agreed. “Vicky, it’s because your friends and churches are righteous in God’s eyes and they have all been praying!”
Vicky reflected on this beautiful relationship with her friend — the messy, joyful, and difficult moments of life she has shared with Habeekah and her family. Then she thanked God for showing Himself to Habeekah in a miraculous way.

Your part in this story...
Vicky asks you to pray for these requests.
- Please ask God to provide for this family in a way that brings glory to Jesus — specifically by providing a job for Habeekah’s husband and healing from bitterness in family relationships.
- Pray for believers in North America to be the hands and feet of Jesus in bold ways to Muslims like Habeekah who are living right next door. God has brought the nations to our doorstep — what an opportunity!
- Ask for peace in Central Asia. Security is on everyone’s mind: Roads are unsafe to travel, and large portions of our country are either controlled by violent government officials or disputed with regular fights and attacks. Pray that the gospel would continue to spread even in this very difficult environment.
