Rule #1: Don’t Talk About God
QUEBEC — Perhaps he came to hang out with his friend. Perhaps it was just for a free meal. Either way, Liam found himself at the home of Crossworld worker Ray (pictured above) for taco night.
“I haven’t seen you before,” Ray said. “Tell me about yourself.”
“My name is Liam and I’m a religion major. I want to teach high school students to live in peace and not criticize others’ beliefs. We should never tell others, ‘I have found the truth.’ We should always keep searching.”
“I suppose that if you plan to teach religion in the public schools that you have read the Bible,” Ray said.
“No, I have never read the Bible,” Liam replied. “My family had two cardinal rules: Never discuss religion or politics.”
“So your mother could have voted liberal and your father conservative?” Ray asked with a smile.
Liam chuckled. “I suppose so. I had no idea what they believed about the way to run the government. It was the same with religion. We never talked about God or faith. I had to find my own way about what to think.”
“Why not read the Bible?” Ray suggested. “Start with the gospel of Luke, then Acts, then Genesis. Then let’s discuss what you’ve discovered.”
“Someone gave me a Bible recently,” Liam said. “Ok, I will read it.”
