Loving Like Jesus in the Workplace
ASIA — Talking about kids is an ice breaker between strangers in any culture, but when that happened in a park between Maggie (a Crossworld worker) and SuLyn, it took turns that surprised them both.
“What a happy girl,” Maggie observed as SuLyn’s daughter played.
“Yes, she’s a blessing.”
Continuing their exchange, they discovered they also shared friendship with Mrs. Lin.
“Mrs. Lin and I worked at the same factory, and I was pregnant then,” SuLyn said. “Doctors had found problems and recommended abortion. Mrs. Lin and her church prayed for me every day, but still I worried. She told me to talk to the factory owner, Mr. John. I went to his office — ”
“ — and met his wife!”
SuLyn gasped. “How do you know?”
“Because it was me! I’m Mr. John’s wife!”
The two women peered at each other and, when recognition flashed for them both, a tearful embrace followed.
SuLyn spoke next. “You were there. You said if I didn’t want to keep an imperfect child that you would raise him or her as your own. You also shared words from the Bible.”
“And this girl here — is she…?”
“Yes! My daughter had no problems at birth and is healthy. Thank you for praying and for caring about us.”
Maggie is an example of living and loving like Jesus wherever life happens — even in a factory in Asia. There, she and her husband continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus to people who have no access to the gospel. Using the natural window of opportunity of their workplace, they are sharing Christ and making disciples like Mrs. Lin who discipled SuLyn who is now discipling her daughter.
