Give a Student a Sheep...
SENEGAL — I’m not ready to quit school, Ibrahima thought. But how else will my family survive if I don’t get a job?
All of the young people in Ibrahima’s village were moving to the city to work and send money home to their families. As the oldest child in his family, Ibrahima felt the pressure to earn a living, but as a follower of Jesus, he wanted to stay in school so that he could become a pastor.
“What if you could earn a living here, without giving up your education?” asked Crossworld worker Kevin. He further explained an idea to buy and raise sheep, then sell them at a profitable time. “You won’t have to leave home, but it will take hard work and commitment. Are you up for it?”
Five years later, Ibrahima and other local believers have learned to raise and sell sheep — which has allowed Ibrahima to finish school and get Bible training. Now he is using his training to serve and make disciples, and soon he will become the pastor of his church when the current leader moves to another village.
