En Route to Jesus
“Good morning, Noreen. I’d like you to meet my wife,” said Keo, who had been Noreen’s driver for the last two years. “I bought a second tuk tuk, so my wife, Raksa, will be your driver now.”
Raksa grinned and asked, “Where would you like to go this morning?”
“To church,” Noreen replied.
Raksa and Noreen chatted on the drive, then Raksa waited in the tuk tuk until Noreen came out of church. The following week they did the same. Then the next. And the next. Soon Raksa moved to sit on the door stoop during the service, then she began standing just inside the door. Little by little she moved closer each week until one Sunday, she plopped down right in the middle of the church!
“What did you think about church today?” Noreen asked on the ride home.
“It makes me feel very happy to go there,” Raksa said.
They often talked about the Bible or things they heard in church as they drove home, but Noreen couldn’t tell whether Raksa yet grasped the gospel. Lord, will you transform Raksa’s heart? Noreen silently prayed.
A few weeks later, the church pastor announced an upcoming baptism service.
“I would like to be baptized,” Raksa told the pastor just after the service. When he asked about her faith, she explained the gospel she learned at church and during rides with Noreen.
Then she added, “I want to show that I trust in Jesus!”
As they walked back to the tuk tuk that day, Noreen gave a big hug to Raksa — her driver, her friend, and now her sister in Christ.
Raksa shared with her local church what God had done in her life before being baptized on May 14, 2014.
